It was about ten years ago that the initial thought of doing mission work in a distant country took hold in my mind. At the time I honestly felt and showed little interest. I had no desire to leave my familiar surroundings and was of the opinion that my immediate surroundings were a big enough mission field and that it had more than enough of its own demands. However, God felt differently. Hardship in varous forms came our way and my wife, Celeste, and I began to sense the urgent need to have a closer and more meaningful walk with God.
After a gruesome flight of over twenty hours with two little ones (our ten month and two year old girls), our family first set foot on South Korean soil in the afternoon of 23 Aprill 1999. Just around three months prior to our arrival we had made up our minds to give the Korean mission field a try for three years, before returning home and settling down for good. It is 27 September 2005 today. We are still in Korea! Gone are the days of dreaming of a carefree existence and a dream home in this world. God has miraculously changed our priorities during the past six and a half years in Korea. The foremost longing of our heart is to be ready for Jesus' soon return and to share the blessed hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ with as many perishing souls as possible. Settling down in a place we can call home has lost most of its luster. Our heavenly home has become our destiny of choice and we know for sure that God has prepared a place for each of us there.
If it is your desire to experience Jesus in a more tangible way, I invite you to prayerfully consider joining us here in Korea as a missionary teacher. Our students are truly wonderful and as you interact with them you cannot help but love them and feel deep concern for their spiritual well-being.
The experiences here in Korea served to bring my family to a better understanding of and appreciation for God's intense love for His sinful creation-something we can witness to our students on a daily basis. I truly believe that our God is anxious to do the same for and through you.
