VOLUNTEER TEACHING CONTRACT

DESCRIPTION: This document describes a contractual agreement between SDA Language Institute, Korea and a Seventh-day Adventist volunteer missionary who agrees to teach from one to six two-month terms in the SDA Language Institute to which he or she is assigned.

I. The undersigned VOLUNTEER MISSIONARY agrees to:

A. Faithfully serve, as a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good and regular standing, the Korean Seventh-day Adventist Church and abide by its standards during the full term of service under the supervision of the Pastor(s) of the Institute Church to which he or she is assigned;
B. Take personal responsibility for knowledge and understanding of all materials in the
SDA Language Institutes’ Teaching Staff Manual and abide by them;
C. Contract with SDA Language Institute, Korea to serve in its Teaching/Evangelism
Program for the contract period stated above.
D. Teach five (5) hours of English language classes and one hour of religion class per day. In the adult program, classes are held five (5) days per week. In the Junior program, they are held four (4) days per week.
E. Participate in the evangelistic outreach programs of the SDA Language Institute(s) to which he is assigned;
F. Be willing to relocate to another institute at the discretion of the Academic Council, when necessary;
G. Be willing to abide by the decision of the Academic Council in cases of adjudication.



II. SDA LANGUAGE INSTITUTE (hereinafter known as “SDA”) agrees to provide:

A. A starting monthly stipend as stated above, with increments as provided by the pay schedule;
B. Medical insurance based on denominational health care policy, household insurance as a
provision of the Personal Effects Floater policy, and limited Dental and Optical coverage.
C. A house helper (optional), and housing in an apartment shared with other volunteers;
D. Utility fees are covered by the institute as follows:
Anything beyond these amounts is responsibility of teachers involved.
Electricity: (Effective as of March 1, 2003) Married couple’s household (including children)—50,000 won per household per month, one single teacher-40,000 won, 2 teachers-50,000 won, 3 teachers-60,000 won, 4 teachers-70,000 won per household per month.
Water & Sewer: (Effective as of May 1, 2003) Married couple’s household (including children)—50,000 won per household per month, one single teacher-25,000 won, 2 teachers-50,000 won, 3 teachers-75,000 won, 4 teachers-100,000 won per household per month.
Gas & Heating: Apartment sizes: 20 pyong & under—200,000 won, 21-25 pyong—250,000 won, 26-30 pyong—300,000 won, over 31 pyong—320,000 won per household per month.
Telephone Bills: 10,000 won for one teacher with increments of 5,000 won per additional teacher per month per apartment; (see current policy for utility ceilings)

E. Airfare:
1. For SIX contracted teaching terms, SDA will provide, in advance, through the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, a one-way air ticket from the volunteer missionary’s point of origin to the Northern Asia Pacific Division country of orientation and on to Seoul, Korea, less any optional side trips.

2. Upon completion of SIX contracted teaching terms, SDA will provide a one-way direct return air ticket to the volunteer missionary’s point of origin. SDA does not provide cash directly to the volunteer missionary in place of the air ticket. The volunteer is responsible for the cost of all side trips.

3. For less than SIX contracted teaching terms, SDA will provide, through the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, a pro-rated portion of the price of a one-way air ticket from the volunteer missionary’s point of origin to the Northern Asia Pacific Division country of orientation and on to Seoul, Korea, less any optional side trips. This portion will be calculated according to the number of terms served. The volunteer missionary will be responsible for providing the remaining portion of the price of a one-way air ticket from their point of origin to the Northern Asia Pacific Division country of orientation and on to Seoul, Korea, less any optional side trips. SDA does not provide cash directly to the volunteer missionary in place of the air ticket.

4. Upon completion of the contracted teaching term/terms, SDA will provide a prorated portion of a one-way, direct return air ticket to the volunteer missionary’s point of origin. SDA does not provide cash directly to the volunteer missionary in place of the air ticket. The volunteer is responsible for the cost of all side trips.

5. For FEWER TERMS THAN CONTRACTED:
a. the price of the air ticket paid to come to the Northern Asia Pacific
Division country of orientation and on to Seoul, Korea, will be deducted from the volunteer missionary’s last month’s stipend;
b. the volunteer missionary will be responsible for providing their air
ticket to their point of origin.

6. For MORE THAN SIX TERMS, no additional air tickets will be provided.

F. Severance Pay:
1. One month’s severance pay is given for each full year of service when contract
is completed.

**Please Note: Teacher MUST let the Insurance Officer (Lee Hai Ran or Kim Ok Soon) know if there are any changes in family status including marriage, dependents or births. If the Insurance Office is not contacted the new family member will NOT be insured. Thank you.
